I am the worst parent ever.

So the saying goes, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." If this is true, then I am in huge trouble with the janitorial staff at Doss High School.

Officially, I have left Iroquois and accepted a postion at Doss next year. I am excited but kicking myself as I remember ALL of the prep work that has to be done before entering a new school. It took me 3 years to get Iroquois cleaned, organized and "working". Now I have to start all over again. Today I went to the school to meet with the choir director for a brief tour of the music facilities and school in general. His wife was wonderful enough to let Easton play at their house for the morning. I kept Camille with me thinking she would take her normal nap and not be an issue. I sat up the pack-n-play in the bandroom and tried to lay her down. Of course, new environment, fun things to look at, she wasn't going to co-operate so easily and began crying. But as soon as I picked her up she immediately stuck that thumb in her mouth and snuggled on my shoulder. On my second attempt, I moved the pack-n-play to a quiet and dark area. She fussed a little but was soon asleep. Normally, she sleeps about an hour to two hours. The choir director and I headed down the hall for a moment so he could introduce me to the guidance counselors and other bookkeeping type people. After 15 min, I suggested we go back to the bandroom and make sure everything was still okay. When we got there, Jeff (the choir director) saw a janitor starting to go into the room. In a loud whispher Jeff yelled, "Wait! There's a baby in there!" It was too late. The janitor looked at us and yelled back, "Hey guys! I think these are the people!" I was confused until we walked through the doors to find the entire female janiotrial staff (about 5 ladies total) huddled around Camille changing her diaper. I was first greeted by a lady saying, "Hey, are you her mamma? We just called the cops to come get this baby." Kudos to me for not passing out on the spot. The cop thing was a joke. It turns out that Camille woke herself up making a dirty diaper and began to cry. A janitor heard the cry from the hallway and came in to find a baby laying in a dark corner. She must have called the calvary and suddenly there are a small army of women trying to figure out what kind of a crazy mother would leave a crying baby with a dirty diaper in a room by itself. Well, that would be me. Thankfully, they had not completed the diaper change when we arrived, so I'm thinking that she had only been awake for a minute or two before we came back. Worst case scenario it would have been 14 minutes. Needless to say, I spent the remainder of the morning with Camille on my hip. Maybe this will be forgotten before school starts in August.

They were probably in heaven taking care of her. I am surprised she let them... I think if they were all that upset or crazy about the situation they could have gotten on the PA and said "would the mother of a baby left unattended in the band room, come retreive her poppy diapered crying child...but they didn't do that either...:D

that was my exact thought - don't schools have intercoms anymore? and they are school janitors - they've seen much worse than a poopy baby in a corner. i think you're fine for august.
