I love electricity
I could have done without the TV and internet and lights and AC for a while. It took some adjusting, but the loss of those things were not so bad. In fact, I love keeping the windows open. Spencer hates it. If it's 70 degrees outside and blowing a gentle breeze, he would still rather have the AC spitting out 70 degree fake air. But he has allergies so I guess I can't fault him. So having the windows open for a week was glorious for me. Especially in the mornings when the air was crisp and clear. The candlelight at night was also not so bad. We made due with one gigantic candle and a few flashlights, but I'm not opposed to having a few candles in every room. As long as you're not trying to read, there's enough light to get things done. And no one really suffers from loss of TV. I missed a week of political talk and the ability to say "Go watch Dora" when I wanted the kids out of my hair. We did a lot of puzzles. My kids may have even gained a few brain cells that Dora couldn't have taught them.
But I could NOT deal with the loss of food and shower. No hot water. Not to wash your hands. Not to wash the dishes. Not for a bath or shower. Yeah, I know, we could boil the water on the grill and use that. Not fun though. And lack of refrigerator or stove. Yuck. I'm so sick of eating food from a box. Cereal bars, Chips, etc. Anything processed and in a wrapper. Blech.
But our power is back! And life has returned to normal. I gave Kroger a ton of money and restocked the fridge. And we had great friends that let us use their showers, washing machines and homes so we really weren't that bad off.
Best moment from last week:
We were explaining to Easton about the hurricane. What is a hurricane? Well, it's when the wind and rain are really, really strong. But we didn't get any rain - only wind. Like a tornado? Well, sort of like a tornado, but no funnel. (How do you explain a funnel to a 5 year old). We settled on "there was a lot of wind".
Later that day.......
Camille was telling someone about our situation. She says, "Our lights don't work. The big tomato came and broke them. And Mister Will can't fix it."

The big tomato.......that's hilarious! Poor Will....something he can't fix. Mean ol tomato.
Heee Heee . . . the big tomato! I can't wait until Lily can say things like that. I am sure she thinks them. Especially about me, all the silly faces I make at her.
Sounds like your suffering from the hurricane exceeded ours, and we're 60 miles from the coast where it hit rather than 1000 miles!
