Take a deep breath...

I teach a Freshman rotating class. The last day before rotation is tomorrow. Our computer based attendance and grading system is not set up to have classes rotate. So tomorrow at 2:20 my Freshman class will be swiped from me and sent on to their new teacher and I will get a new set of students. I will not have access to that gradebook or those students any more. That means I have to have grades completely done before tomorrow and printed or bad things will happen. I don't know what these bad things are, but I don't want to find out. Here's my problem. Before the power outage there was a glitch with my online gradebook and I wasn't sure how to proceed so I just kept all my grades on paper. I emailed our school tech person for help. And then the power went out. And school was out for a week. And then we came back to school and things have been crazy. Two emails later and my school tech person just TODAY answered my question. I have 2.5 weeks worth of grades to log for these silly freshman. Fine. Now that I know what to do - I have it all on paper - shouldn't take but 1-2 hours. Hard to find 1-2 hours with 3 kids in the house and zero plan time at school. I have a girlband date with cheese fries tonight. I jet out of the house right after dinner in hopes of swinging by Starbucks to grab some moments of quiet to do this grade thing.

It costs money to get online at Starbucks.

What??

It's free at Panera by the way.

But I'm here so I proceed. After a ton of "creating an account" and "logon this and that" I pay them $9.99.

Ludicrous.

Time is ticking away so I keep going.

I go to JCPS. Find the link for online gradebook.

It's down. Can't get on.

Stuck.

10 bucks and a cup of overpriced coffee and no access to the very thing that I wanted access to.

But Blogger still works - so you can hear me complain about it.

And the girls will hear me complain because I will stay up too late tonight eating cheese fries and now have to wake up at who knows what time so I can be at school by 5:30 when the janitors arrive so I can have my time to enter these stupid grades.

I need a pity party.

That stinks!
I'm a little late to your blog - just clicked over from Mamie, but if you ever get stuck at Starbucks again, you can get free WiFi if you buy a gift card and register it online for their rewards program. It's free, you just have to use the card you registered. Oh, and it gets you free syrups and free refills on your regular coffee. So you wouldn't need a microwave, just a refill! :)

I am so sorry! It is terribly frustrating.

For sitting at Starbucks:
BTW I learned that if you are tired of pike roast, (I am very tired of it and want the variety back) You can order a french press of any coffee you want! It contains about 2 grande cups, which one is plenty for me, so I have enough to share. The first time I shared some with a stranger who had not known about the french press and the next time with Scott. The best part is the coffee is very fresh, and the cost . . . . . only 3.75. I couldn't believe how much better a deal for such a better product. Plus, you get to look kinda posh sitting in Starbucks with a ceramic mug and french press of coffee rather than an old joe in a paper cup like everyone else.

For taking your coffee with you:
Also another discovery. . . if you bring in your own starbucks mug, your coffee only costs that of a Tall size order and you get a cup discount.

Why they don't advertise these things better, I will never know. Maybe I should google "starbucks discounts"
