Dinner Diaries
I hereby declare that I'm bringing back Sunday dinners. And why not? I have a smart oven - I should be doing this every week. And I will.
Today I made use of my smart oven and put in a pork roast before leaving for church. I set the timer to start cooking when I wanted at how hot I wanted and told it to stop cooking when I wanted. When we walked in the door from church - voila! Dinner was ready. And I had put out some yeast rolls to rise (and thank you if you even thought for a minute that I was able to make anything out of yeast on my own - but no, these are the frozen kind that you pop in a pan and they do everything else) so those were ready for baking too. Add a couple of frozen veggies (creamed corn and broccoli/cauliflower) and it feels like Sunday afternoons are supposed to feel. I was only missing a pie - I'll work on that for next week.
Funny how certain foods are "Sunday" foods. All of those fun recipes that I want to try out during the week don't seem right for Sunday after church. And thinking back on my childhood, I only remember Sunday lunches at Granny's house. Did we ever eat at home? I don't remember it if we did. I'm sure we did. But I remember Granny's house. I remember the smell as we came in the garage and walked up the stairs (and for the few of you that will know what I'm talking about - I remember the little jingling noise that the bell over the door made when you walked into the garage) And today - that's how my house smelled and that made me happy.
Next week = roast and mashed potatoes and lima beans and rolls and pie.

Wow. That sounds delicious!!! I'm with you on the Sunday afternoon meals. My mom had a crock pot, too that cooked all night. So, when we got up Sunday morning and were getting ready for church the aroma was already filling the house :-)
