Rise over Run
For the record, I have no idea what that means. But I know it has something to do with the crazy scientific space shuttle like formula that goes into making steps.
For the past few weeks we have had some awesome friends come by to help with our deck rebuilding project. Slowly but surely, a deck has started to emerge. In the beginning, there was a lot of tearing apart and mess making. And then there was restructuring of the underneath parts. And finally, Spencer was able to start laying the deck boards. You know, the pretty part. The part you walk on. The part that looks like a deck! Spencer rushed home Monday and Tuesday last week to screw in as many boards as possible before dark. He was given instructions to stop when he got to the steps. Tuesday night, he had made it to the steps. Wednesday afternoon he had convinced himself that he could do the steps himself. Until, of course, Youtube burst his bubble. He watched some crazy step video spouting out strange mumbo jumbo carpentry talk and got scared. I think he called everyone he knew that owns a hammer to talk him through it, but that's not the kind of thing that can be solved on a conference call. Maybe if we had Skype...
But as I type this - Will is here and I hear saws and various pounding noises in the background that tells me that steps are in our future. Our goal is to have a functioning deck before Friday when Nana arrives. (not that it will be warm enough to use, but deadlines are good)
