Project Potty - Day 1 Evening Report

The day seemed to take a dramatic turn after nap. He woke up and we took off the diaper and went back to the t-shirt only look. I did notice, however, that the diaper weighed about 40 pounds and looked like someone had popped a water balloon in it.
This was about 2:00. By 4:00 he had sat on the potty several times, but there were no drops, no trickles, no nothing. He asked if he could put on his pants to go outside and sit on the front porch. (Something we normally like to do in the afternoons as we watch for the school buses to pass.) In less than 5 minutes he had wet his pants and underwear. So now I understand.....he is holding it and is using the pants as a "diaper". This was confirmed when I told him that we can not pee in our underwear. He said, "yes, I can - I can pretend that it's a diaper." Great. He also told me that he can pee in bed. I argued that no, we cannot get our bed wet either. He said, "No, I not get bed wet, I just wait till you shut door and then pee in my diaper." So it seems that he was holding back this morning as well. Maybe he just gave me enough of a show to get Alfie. Then he waited until I put him down for the nap and let loose (explaining the 40 pound water bomb).
So we came in from the front porch and once again stripped away any clothing from the waist down. For whatever reason, he would at least stay dry this way. By the time Spencer got home and we ate dinner, it was 6:30. A few more attempts at the potty, but no results. He wanted to play baseball in the back yard with Spencer. Spencer told Easton that he would have to put on pants to play baseball and before he could put on pants he would have to go in the potty so he wouldn't get his pants wet. By this time he was about to bust anyways. Spencer went with him to the potty. Quickly, the scene turned ugly. For 20 minutes, this is what I heard:

E: (screaming and crying at the top of his lungs like someone beating him) No Daddy! My tummy hurts! I want to get up! Want to GET UP!!!

S: (sounding like a cheerleader with the scores tied and 30 seconds left in the game) You're doing great Buddy! Just let it out! You'll feel better if you let it out!

E: Let me up! I want down! I all done now! I all done now!

S: Oh look! You're doing it! There it is! Keep going!

E: No! I all done! NO!

S: Wow! You're still going! And you're STILL going! Good job!

And it went like that for a full 20 min. The boy had held in 20 min worth of pee. To celebrate, Spencer took him to the bookstore for another Thomas train. (Yep, we're suckers). They got to the car and immediately came back inside. His shorts were wet. They sat on the potty (no screaming this time) and he peed happily for another 10 min. I'm not kidding. I can't image what his little bladder was feeling like.

The diaper fairy left another diaper under his pillow for bedtime. We'll do it all again in the morning.
