Dessert Diaries

Yes, yes, I know - I haven't been very diligent in blogging my cooking efforts lately. It was a slow summer. I didn't try anything out of the ordinary and we did a lot of grilling. It wasn't very blog worthy. But this....THIS is worthy of much attention.

I present.....Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding with Warm Butter Rum Sauce by Paula Deen

Even the title makes you go week in the knees doesn't it? I'll have to admit - I looked at the ingredient list and I doubted Paula. I questioned some of her choices. I'm sorry, Paula. You were right and I was wrong. This was the ultimate of warm, gooey goodness.

Ingredients:
2 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts
1 can sweetened condensed milk
(I have to admit that while putting this dessert together, I actually took a bite of Krispy Kreme dunked in sweetened condensed milk. I about passed out from a sugar coma)
2 cans fruit cocktail in heavy syrup (undrained)
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 small box of raisins
2 tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Cube the doughnuts and place in large dish. Cover with wet ingredients and let soak up as much as possible. Place in oven at 350 for about an hour or until center has firmed.

Glaze:
In a small saucepan melt 1 stick of butter. Slowly add 1 pound of powdered sugar and Rum to taste. (I dumped the sugar and butter in the pan all at once and it was a big pain to stir down. Better to be patient and do the butter first.)

I noticed you changed your picture on your profile but you forgot to change your age. I'm sure it was just an oversight. :)

HA!! LCR, I noticed that too but didn't want to mention it! haha Come on Jenny, you know you can do it...post your REAL age :-) haha

Jenny, posting a dessert recipe like this should be illegal. I need to block your recipe posts because even READING the word Krispy Kreme adds pounds to my body :-) Clayton said, "MAKE IT HAPPEN!!" He is a K.K. addict!!

Oops. I'm 33. I'm okay with that, really. I think it's the 40's that will freak me out a little.

Papa - all that fat free jello has made you soft. One of Big Granny's chocolate pies might put you in the hospital.

Shan - I'm sorry. I almost put a 'shannon don't look' disclaimer at the top. Do they make fat free Krispy Kremes??

I think the phrase "fat free Krispy Kreme" should be made an illegal phrase. :-) If you're going to eat one, eat the REAL thing!! Thankfully, I have never heard of FF K.K. So I think we're safe.

I have a feeling I'll be making this dessert for Clayton very soon because we pass a K.K. on our way to and from church every Sunday. If the HOT light is on tomorrow, I may be in trouble. I THINK I can make it w/o eating one....maybe. Okay, does a finger lick count?

Shannon - if you go in and DO NOT EAT, you had better ask for forgiveness! What a horrible sin! And how dare anyone speak of FAT FREE Krispy Kremes. BTW, I am trying to lose weight and I was alotted 2 spoonsful of this dish and it was simply delightful, however I could only eat 1 1/2!!!

I have to agree with your dad on this one. Of course you know me I would still eat it while Kerri was driving me to the hospital because that would definitely kill someone...
