Upcharge anyone?
The blinkers on the Maxima are out. Spencer was able to swing by the dealership today to see if he could get it looked at. He called several places and they all charged about the same for a diagnostic test, so he went with the dealership. They said the fuse was busted. There are two fuses, so they recommended that he go ahead and get the other one replaced while they did the broken one. Since it's not good to ride around town without blinkers they offered to have the parts overnighted and they could install them in the morning.
Recap -
Price of fuse 1 = $66
Price of fuse 2 = $66
Cost of overnight shipping = $25
Hourly labor = $40
Spencer came home for lunch and said he was going to check out Pep Boys and see if they had the fuse in stock. They did. It was $9.99
Recap -
Price of fuse 1 = $10
Price of fuse 2 = Free, it still works
Cost of overnight shipping = Free, it was in stock
Hourly labor = Free, my man INSTALLED THE FUSE HIMSELF (have I mentioned that he's turning out to be quite handy?)

Holy cow! Spencer saved $187 by purchasing and installing on his own! Is there a LOT of manliness in the house today?!?! :-)
Go Spencer!
Dealerships are insane aren't they! When I had my honda tuned up they found out that my exhaust manifold was cracked and one of my struts had a leak. They said they would fix it all tax and everything for $1500! I told them I could do for under $400. Sure enough I found the parts online for $375. and can install it in about an hour or so. Tell him to got to auto zone and buy the parts manual for his car and he can replace just about anything...
What amazes me is that the dealership can quote those prices without so much as cracking a smile.
Maybe they thought Spencer was a government employee.:)
lcr
Have you got a fire exstinguisher??? And I'm offended by the government employee comment!! MO
