Snack Diaries

If necessity is the mother of invention.........then this is what I came up with.

Problem - I was craving fruit
Solution - We keep frozen fruit and plain yogurt on hand for smoothie making (fun and quick snack for everyone)
Problem - Smoothies need blenders. Blenders are loud. It was naptime.
Solution - Just throw fruit in yogurt without blending
Problem - Don't have time to wait for fruit to thaw and am not thinking clearly/rationally enough to remember to use the microwave for this simple function
Solution - Remember that we have frozen O.J.

New snack - Throw a spoonful of frozen O.J. into plain (non vanilla) yogurt and Poof! you have your own orange dreamsicle in yogurt form that's not sickeningly sweet like the stuff bought in the grocery store.

I have a thing against the yogurt companies. The regular yogurt is WAY too sweet and the "sugar free" yogurt reeks of aspartame (and don't even try to tell me that Splenda is better because it tastes the same to me) so I end up being disappointed. This was a good compromise with sweetness from the oj but tartness from the plain yogurt. If you like the sweet stuff I'd try this with the vanilla yogurt. I haven't done the math but I bet it costs much less too because you can buy the plain and vanilla in the big tubs.

The invention of new snacks which are low calorie and healthy is the topic of survival at work. We are always sharing new ones at work. It is like when you were in elementary school and traded portions of your lunch with others at the lunch table. The yogurt and frozen fruit is one of our favorites, add a tad of crunchy granola on top and it is dessert!
My sister came up with grapes in cottage cheese, not too sweet. My god-daughter invented "Panda Bear Swirl" She is in love with panda bears and appropriately named her vanilla yogurt with hersheys sauce drizzled over it. Surprisingly good.

Looking for creamy new flavor for your morning oatmeal, try a tablespoon of peanut butter melted right in. Peanut butter also adds a new dimension to your plain vanilla ice cream.

Another snack shared at the lunch table is the 90 calorie snack pack of marshmallows. They come in strawberry, chocolate, and plain. Chocolate is my favorite. Look for them near the lunch size chips at the grocery store.

Seriously? From the guy who hates hot wings and ranch dressing? You can't make fun of yogurt and fruit! (well, it used to be fruit)
