Dinner Diaries

Crockpot BBQ

I was surprised at how easy this ended up being. It takes a while, but if you have all day to wait on a crock pot then I would definitely give this a try. And it's much cheaper than buying BBQ by the pound.

Ingredients:
Pork Roast, cut up into 2 inch cubes
Large onion, sliced
Worcestershire sauce
Favorite BBQ sauce

  • Put pork and onion in crock pot and add enough water to cover. Add worsestershire sauce (as much as you want - I used about 15 shakes or so)
  • Cook on high for 6 hours or on low for 9-10 hours. (I used the high setting because I didn't start it until 9:00 and wanted to have it for dinner)
  • Drain water but keep pork and onions.
  • Take a couple of forks and pull meat apart. I thought this part would be tricky, but it was incredibly easy and only took about 30 seconds.
  • Add BBQ sauce to meat and turn crock pot to low. Let hang out an additional hour or so - although I think it would be just fine to eat immediately.
  • I only had one bottle of sauce and that was not enough. I used about half the bottle and kept the other half to use on the sandwiches. I made up a crude sauce using tomato sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, onion powder and garlic powder. It wasn't very good on it's own but it worked okay when mixed with the 'professional' sauce and meat. Unless you have a family recipe or something I suggest just going with the bottled stuff.
