Gooooooo Tigers!

Easton had his first t-ball practice last night. I was wondering, "What exactly would you DO with a group of 4-5 year olds for baseball practice?"

The answer......teach them how to run to first base. I think that was the central focus of the hour. Coach them line up and instructed them to do the following:

1) Put on batting helmet

2) Hit ball off tee (coach was there helping each kid through this process)

3) Place bat on bat bag (instead of slinging it wildly on the ground)

4) Run toward first base (there is a dad there "catching them")

5) Run past first base and turn slightly to the right (1st base dad helps with this process too)

6) Stand on first base in "runner's stance" with one foot on base and the other foot out ready to go fast (1st base dad working hard - has to co-ordinate this as well)

7) Run to second base when 1st base dad tells you to

8) Stop on second base in "runner's stance" and hang out with 2nd base dad

9) Run toward third base when 3rd base dad tells you to

10) Pay attention to third base dad. He may tell you to stop or keep running.

11) Run home - touch the base - and get back in line to do it all again

It was fun to watch. They all got to bat 3 times. After the last time they were getting the hang of it. The first time there were kids running all crazy directions. I think the "star" of the team is going to be one of the girls. She came with her own pink helmet - and she knew exactly where first base was. She played last year....clearly a ringer.

MO - Spencer assures me that the girl thing is normal. He said that he remembers girls playing on his t-ball teams and that was back in the 70's so I guess it's okay.

Shan - They have 9 kids on their team. Easton had fun but was a little upset that he didn't get to practice catching the ball. But at one point he had to go potty and got to use a tree, so I guess that was fun. :)
