I'm like a mad woman
Rest assured that I will never be that crazy ballerina mom or crazy soccer mom. In fact - I'm even anti room-moms. I know it's wrong, but it's all very tedious and tiresome to me.
However....I may have found my niche.
Yesterday Easton came home with an innocent little packet advertising his school's Science Fair. My immediate reaction was to put it aside because surely this was for the older kids - maybe the 4th and 5th graders. But later I started reading through it - and wait - wait - it says that ALL students can participate. And then there were several pages of ideas for each level. Level P1 had ideas like:
Does a ball roll faster on grass or asphalt?
Can you hear better with one ear or two ears?
Do larger fruits have larger seeds?
And then I went nuts. WE CAN DO THIS! Easton can be in the science fair! We can answer these types of questions! Immediately I had formulated an experiment dealing with sound and instruments. Perhaps we could find out why a flugelhorn has a different sound than a trumpet. But the question had to be Easton's question so it was just a matter of "leading" him to my ultimate plan. So last night and this morning (today is a snow day so I got to eat breakfast with everyone this morning) I've been dialouging with Easton on what types of questions he may want to answer. He wasn't taking my 'musical bait'. He kept asking questions like, "How do they make TV's?" and "How does a car work?" And then Camille went downstairs to get something and called for help as she came back up.
background - We keep the door to the stairs closed all the time because Claire can crawl now and we don't want her tumbling down the stairs.
And Easton said sarcastically, "I want to know why Camille can open the door going downstairs but can't open it when she comes back up"
AHA!!!!!!! That's it! There's our experiment. It's unique - it's fun - it's doable - and it's an honest question from a curious 5 year old. There will be measurements and pictures and posters and all sorts of fun things.
I hereby declare myself as crazy science fair mom.
