What did you learn at school today?
Easton has learned so much at kindergarten this year. He can recognize almost 100 sight words and is reading very well. He can also count by 5's and 10's and do simple math.
History.....not his strong point.
Conversation last night:
Easton - I know how George Bush died
Me - No, George Bush isn't dead. He was our last president. Do you mean George Washington?
Easton - Yes, that's it. I know how George Washington died.
Me - Really? How?
Easton - He was sitting in a chair and someone came up behind him and shot him.
Me - Do you mean Abraham Lincoln?
Easton - Yes. Him. He's on the dollar.
Me - You mean penny?
Easton - Yes, the penny.

I am so impressed with Easton!! Way to go buddy!
And who cares about the little details anyway, right?
:-)
I had a three-way conversation a few years ago that went like this (and you know the child involved as Brooke’s son. The woman we were talking to was another teacher/caregiver at our church):
Child: It makes me sad that the president died.
Adult: Oh, he didn’t die! He’s fine. Why do you think he died?
Child: I know he died. We learned about it in school. He was shot.
Adult: President Bush is alive and well, I’m sure of it.
Child: I’m talking about President Lincoln. He got shot.
Adult: Oh! Lincoln. No, Lincoln wasn’t shot. He died because he was flying a kite during a thunderstorm and was struck by lightning.
Me: [startled and speechless]
Child: We learned he was shot while he was watching a play.
Me: I think he’s right.
Adult: Oh, really? Then which president am I thinking of?
Me: Uhhh…I don’t even know where to start with this.
