Holiday Ruffle Scarf Tutorial

Thank goodness my children get new teachers every year because this might be my go-to gift from now on. So, so, easy!

There are a ton of fantastic tutorials out there and I urge you to find them and follow them. I'm posting my method for my beginner friends as this is an easy project with lots of straight lines!

Step One: Purchase two yards of a light-weight fabric. I used some gauze type material and also some light cotton with holiday sparklies woven in. Both worked great.

Step Two: Lay out your fabric on the fold (just like it came off the bolt). You should have two layers of 72 inches X 22 inches.

Step Three: Divide your fabric into 3 portions (about 7ish inches each) and cut into long strips of 7ish X 72 inches.

Step Four: Put peices right sides together (pretty sides together) and sew down one long side across the short side and back up a long side. Leave the top short side open.

Step Five: Flip fabric inside out so that the seams are tucked on the inside. Now fold in your short top side and top stitch closed

Step Six: Take elastic thread and wind your bobbin BY HAND. Not too tight and not too loose, but somewhere in the middle. Insert into machine as normal. Use a normal thread in a coordinating color for your top thread.
Step Seven: Sew either one long seam down the middle or two seams evenly spaced out. Take a small backstitch at both the beginning and end to secure.

Step Eight: If you are using an extremely light material (like my gauze) then you may be done! Determine if the elastic is gathered to your liking. If you are using a cotton or something slightly heavier then use the steam from your iron to scrunch the elastic more.

Step Nine: Repeat all of the above for your other two strips.

Step Ten: Put on your new scarf and package up the other two to give away as gifts!
