2011

Happy New Year!

Last year I made a 2010 goal of learning to make something with yarn. I am happy to say that I met that goal! I made lots and lots of random square-ish knitted things and one really long rectangle knit thing. I can't yet call it a scarf because it needs more yarn (I used a whole skein! Yay me!) and the yarn was impossible to find until my yarn diva friend found it for me, but I haven't seen her yet to continue the project. So I made a neck warmer. Let's just call it that. For those that are yarn savvy - I will tell you that I cast on 20 stitches on size 9 needles and knit a garder stitch. And I used boucle yarn. I sound very fancy don't I?

I hadn't considered a 2011 goal until New Year's Eve when it became very obvious what it should be. Family Date Night. This New Year's Eve all 5 Barhams went to eat Chicago style pizza at a nearby restaurant and then saw the *late* showing (7:30) of Tangled. It was great! Not just the movie but the whole experience! Since 2003 we have had a baby in our midst. As soon as Easton got big enough to be a tad independent, along came Camille. And when she grew a little, there was Claire. But now that Claire is 2 1/2....well...it's nice. No more diapers. She can feed herself. We don't have to cart around special foods for her. She is able to sit reasonably still in a public place. She still naps in the afternoon, but if the nap is skipped or bedtime is late the world does not come to an end. We had a fantastic evening as a family and my 2011 goal is to have more of them!

Spreadsheet Jenny says that we should have a family date night every other month and on the alternating months Spencer and I should have a couples' night. That might be a little too calculated...so the official goal will just say that we go out and spend more time together as a family. We've always tried to spend time at home, but there was something special and fun about our own little "dinner and a movie" excursion the other night.
