Soweing

This came home in Camille's folder yesterday. Every so often they do sort of a "free write" exercise. This is a little strange to me because when Easton was in Kindergarten, he didn't start writing sentences on his own until at least after Christmas. He copied a lot of things, but his school was big on having the exact spelling and exact punctuation and exact everything. Camille's school is a little more creative in their approach. Camille writes a lot, and is encouraged to sound things out and look around the room at the many word walls to find spellings and punctuation. Anyway...I give that explanation because it always takes me a bit to figure out what Camille has written.
Her story that goes along with the above picture goes like this:
Sumtims I help my mommy sowe. Wel not sowe take out the needools for a baby shawr just for babys. I do not no haw miny baby shawrs thar rae. I theek abawt wunhudrind baby shawrs. Thats wut I theek it is but Im not shrw.
Just so you don't hurt your brain, I'll help you out:
Sometimes, I help my Mommy sew. Well not sew, take out the needles for a baby shower just for babies. I do not know how many baby showers there are. I think about one hundred baby showers. That's what I think it is, but I'm not sure.
I love so many things about this.
#1. A lot of times when I'm working on something, Camille will come along and ask if she can help. Usually I'm knee deep in a project so there's not much she can "do" but I'll give her the pins as I take them out and she will put them on the magnetic pin pad for me. She also likes to pick up the little fabric scraps from the floor and make designs with them. I think it's sweet that of all the things she could have written about, she chose this one
#2. I love that she started out talking about helping Mommy sew, and then got herself sidetracked by trying to figure out baby showers. Even in written form, Camille can string along 7 different ideas at once. If you've ever had a conversation with her, then you understand this.
#3. In the past month, three of my friends have had a baby and another is due very soon. I think it's funny that she thinks there are baby showers just "out there" waiting to be discovered.
#4. I love that she drew us holding a baby shower quilt together. That little girl just earned herself her very own sewing machine for her 6th birthday. I had been waffling whether she was old enough or not. This little essay just pushed me off the fence.
