Stepmom

Camille and Claire were playing a game and Camille informed me that I was going to be the step mom. Curious, I asked her, "Do you know what a step mom is?" She said that a step mom is when someone gets remarried (not bad so far). So I asked, "If I am your step mom, then who is your real mom?" She told me that I was still her real mommy, but I got remarried so now I am her step mom and she is just going to call me "jenny" instead of mommy, because when you're a step mom you go by your first name.

Well...close enough. But then she moved from her pretend world to real world and asked, "Do we have a step mom or step dad somewhere?" I said No, we are your only mommy and daddy. Just to clarify, she asked again, "No, I mean like another mommy or daddy that live in another house besides ours. Do we have one of those?"

It must be very strange to be a kid and try to figure out life sometimes. Because I think that I could have said yes, we have a secret mom and dad stashed away and she would have said "okay!" and skipped away.
