The evil 2 Hour Delay

I love my job. I honestly enjoy almost everything about it - except the getting up early part. Those first 15 minutes of getting out of bed and getting myself in the shower are the absolute hardest and I would do anything to stay in bed just "5 more minutes". Every morning I pray for a snow day. Even in August and May, somewhere back in the depths of my mind I consider that it could happen.

This morning I went through my usual routine of hitting snooze and hoping to stay in bed. When I finally got up I took my usual look out the window to survey the weather. (This is not as weird as it sounds, my window is directly beside my bed and closet. I almost have to look out the window to walk into my closet to get my clothes and we have a sheer window covering instead of blinds so only a glance is needed) I saw a little white on the ground. But our concrete driveway has a white-ish look to it all the time. The grass looked white as well but I figured it was just frost or a light dusting. It would take something significant to close down JCPS. So on to the shower I went.

I showered. I dressed. I usually listen to our local news radio station as I get ready and I hear the strangest thing. Owen and Spencer County schools have closed. Weird. They are near us but must have a lot of little back roads and close at every snowflake. And then they said it.

Jefferson County Public Schools are currently on a 2 Hour Delay.

NOOOOOO!!! I'm already up!!! I'm awake and fully dressed! I can't go back to sleep now! Even in a 2 hour delay JCPS teachers still have to report to school on time. So this would mean I don't have to be at school until 7:15 instead of my usual 6:00. That's a whole other hour of sleep!

But I'm up. Darn it.

Fortunately, I've learned to wait until the very last second before leaving the house on a 2 hour delay. About 50% of the time this will turn into a "JCPS Closed" if Mr. Sunshine doesn't come out and start doing his job.

So I'm assuming you had to make the journey in? Yeah, snow days are a teacher's best friend! I will send you a special snow dance so you can have a snow day soon!!
